Help Wanted

The Nelson Township Board of Trustees is looking for a skilled individual for a full-time position.  If seeking part-time work, you are encouraged to apply.  High school diploma or equivalent is required, along with related work experience.  Must have a valid Ohio driver’s license and meet our basic qualifications.

Position: Road Maintenance Level 2

Location: Nelson Township, Portage County

                9231 State Route 305

                Garrettsville, Ohio 44231

 Wage: $20-$27/hr. (based on skillset and experience)

 Hours: M-F (7:00 A.M.- 3:30 P.M.) with occasional overtime/periodic on-call support

Qualifications: Ability to pass pre-employment drug screen and subsequent random drug screens required.  Eligibility for inclusion on the township covered driver’s insurance list required.  Willingness to learn new skills and attend technical training, ability to work as part of a team, have a positive, can-do attitude, be open to direct instruction, be a self-starter, punctual and reliable, flexibility for changing tasks and assignments, physical strength able to lift 50 lbs., experience in general labor and/or mechanics a plus.  References required.

Requirements:  Class B CDL required.  Operate Equipment listed but not limited to gas or electric; chainsaw, string trimmer, zero turn mower, street roller, backhoe, loader, road side mower, tractor with brush mower or broom, and chipper.  Must be able to perform light equipment repairs and have a good public demeanor.  Must be able to efficiently clean and create roadside ditches layouts, open/close cemetery graves, assist with industrial vegetation control, and snow plowing.

 REGULAR SCHEDULED MEETINGS of the NELSON TOWNSHIP BOARD OF TRUSTEES will be held as follows: 

TIME: THE FIRST WEDNESDAY of every month commencing at 7:00PM and concluding at the end of business.

 NOTICES of regularly scheduled meetings will be posted on the Nelson Township website www.nelsontwpoh.gov

 SPECIAL MEETINGS will be held as follows:

 NOTICES of special meetings will be posted on the main entrance doors of both the NELSON TOWNSHIP COMMUNITY HOUSE, NELSON TOWNSHIP PIXLEY PARK OFFICE, and on the NELSON TOWNSHIP WEBSITE: www.nelsontwp.oh.gov

 The Fiscal Officer of the Board of Trustees will give notice of the time, place, and purpose of a special meeting at least twenty-four hours advance of the special meeting. If any person or news media have requested notification, the Fiscal Officer shall give at least twenty-four hours advance notice to any other news media that may have requested notification.

 In the event of an emergency, the Fiscal Officer, on behalf of the board member or members calling the meeting, shall notify any person, and any other news media that have requested notification immediately of the time, place, and purpose of the meeting.

 PERSONS MAY REQUEST ADVANCED NOTIFICATION OF REGULAR MEETINGS AND OR ALL MEETINGS AT WHICH ANY SPECIFIC TYPE OF BUSINESS IS TO BE DISCUSSED 

 Any person may request the time and place of all regularly scheduled meetings by submitting a request to the Fiscal Officer of the Board of Trustees.  

 Any person, upon written request, may obtain reasonable notification of all meetings at which any specific type of public business is to be discussed. Each person shall file with the fiscal officer a written request specifying the person's name, address, telephone number, and or email address, along with the specific type of business that is of interest, and the amount of time this request covers (not to exceed three months).
